Riverfront Wilmington to Host Expanded Riverfront Blues Festival in August

Mayor Baker, Cultural Affairs Director Betz Announce Details of Wilmington’s 2007 Riverfront Blues Festival

Wilmington Mayor James M. Baker and City Cultural Affairs Director Tina Betz today announced the scheduled line-up of entertainment for the City’s 2007 Riverfront Blues Festival. In previous years the Festival only ran on Saturday and Sunday; however, this year’s event has been expanded to include a Friday evening concert. The Festival will begin Friday evening, August 10, and run through Sunday, August 12 at the Tubman-Garrett Riverfront Park.
“Wilmington has a deep appreciation for music and entertainment, and we are again pleased to stage an event, in this case a blues festival, that will be enjoyable for our own citizens and to the thousands of visitors from a wide region around Wilmington who are becoming regular guests for these types of City events,” Mayor Baker said today. “Cities are, by their very nature, interesting and entertaining places where people of all ages and backgrounds can gather to live, enjoy life, and have fun,” the Mayor continued.

Advance ticket sales end at 12 noon, Friday, August 10. A one-day pass for Friday night costs $15 in advance and $20 at the gate. A one-day pass for Saturday or Sunday coasts $20 in advance and $25 at the gate. A 3-day weekend pass is $50 through advance sale only. All advance tickets will be held at the “Will Call” gate on the day of the festival. Advance tickets will NOT be mailed.
Children 12 & under are admitted without charge when attending with an adult
Riverfront Blues Festival Venue & Parking Information:
Tubman-Garrett Riverfront Park is located at the corner of Water Street and South French Street at the Christina River (conveniently located next to the Amtrak train station and the Riverfront Market). Riverfront Park was named for abolitionists Thomas Garrett and Harriet Tubman. Garrett resided in the nearby Quaker Hill neighborhood, where slaves traveling the Underground Railroad often found refuge.
Free parking is available at the Amtrak Parking Garage on Martin Luther King Blvd. (adjacent to the bus station), one block from Tubman-Garrett Riverfront Park.
Free handicapped parking is available at the surface lot on French Street (adjacent to the Amtrak Station & next to Riverfront Park).
Additional free parking for cars, RVs, buses & vans is available at the surface lot on Water Street at Tatnall Street. Take Martin Luther King Boulevard to Tatnall Street, and then turn right onto Tatnall Street.
Free parking is also available at the Shipyard Shops parking lot.
Pay Parking (fee charged) is available at the Colonial Parking Garage (located at MLK Boulevard and King St. next to Riverfront Park) and the Ships Tavern Parking Garage (entrance at 2nd and King Streets).
