A WIZARD OF OZ WEEKEND ON THE RIVERFRONT — SATURDAY & SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 28 & 29

WILMINGTON, DE —
We’re not in Kansas anymore, Toto . . . The Wizard of Oz is landing in Wilmington, Delaware on Saturday, September 28. Tell your family, friends, and your little dog, too, and follow the yellow brick road to the big yellow building on the Riverfront as the Delaware Children’s Museum (DCM) hosts the first-ever, licensed traveling educational exhibit based on the beloved movie classic. Joining forces for a special Wizard of Oz opening weekend celebration, the DCM, Penn Cinema Riverfront, and The Delaware Children’s Theatre will offer special programming and discounted offers on Saturday and Sunday, September 28 and 29.

Festivities for The Wizard of Oz Children’s Educational Exhibition begin at 9am on Saturday, September 28 at the DCM. Special activities throughout opening weekend include appearances by Dorothy, Glinda, the Good Witch, and Daniel Schmitt, Director of Delaware Children’s Theatre’s upcoming production of The Wizard of Oz (opening Saturday, November 23); experiments with touchable bubbles and bubbles of different geometrical shapes; exploring properties of rainbows with chemical reactions involving milk, dish soap, and food coloring; Tin Man-style freeze dance parties; a Museum-wide scavenger hunt of iconic Wizard of Oz props; and more! Guests that come dressed as a character from the Wizard of Oz will receive $2 off general admission at the DCM all weekend long. Penn Cinema Riverfront and the DCM will also offer a joint-discount ticket on admission to the DCM when purchased with admission to Penn Cinema Riverfront’s The Wizard of Oz: An IMAX 3D Experience. The IMAX 3D version of the classic 1939 film will be running at Penn Cinema Riverfront for a limited-time engagement in commemoration of the film’s 75th anniversary.

The Wizard of Oz Children’s Educational Exhibition is an interactive journey of self-discovery for the whole family, available only at the DCM from September 28 through January 26. Guests will travel from the Gale Farm in Kansas to the colorful Land of Oz, where they will explore Munchkinland, The Crossroads, The Witch’s Castle, and The Emerald City with Dorothy and her friends. Locally sponsored by The City of Wilmington.
