DCCA Announces Art Salad talks for Fall 2008
Free lunchtime lecture series kicks off September 17 with a discussion on building your own art collection
Wilmington, Del. - 25 August 2008 -- DCCA will continue Art Salad, its popular weekly lunchtime lecture series beginning September 17. Art Salad is a free one-hour program offered from noon – 1 pm that features a variety of art talks and gallery tours led by artists, authors, curators, and other ‘movers-and-shakers’ in the contemporary art world. The fall series will consist of 13 unique lectures and discussions held at the DCCA – we encourage you to bring your lunch and we will provide a meal for your mind!
The Fall 2008 Art Salad lecture series kicks off on September 17, 2008 with a lecture by gallery owner, Evan Slepian. Slepian is the owner of Works On Paper, Inc., a Philadelphia-based gallery that focuses on Contemporary Master Prints, Pop Art, and Minimalism. The gallery has collaborated on projects with notable artists such as Sol LeWitt, Robert Cottingham, Tobi Kahn, and master printer /photographer Tom Baril, along with local emerging artists. During the Art Salad lecture, Slepian will discuss the importance of “uniqueness and imagery and process” in selecting works for a collection and his lecture will focus on the major indicators of a quality piece of art.
In regard to building a collection, Slepian remarks, “my opinion with collecting anything has always been the same, find a great artist(s), learn their body of work...get an assessment of value to see what you can afford... then weed through that body of work, to get to the root by their great material.”
Art Salad is made possible, in part, by a gift from an anonymous donor and grants from Bank of America and the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
