Winter/Spring 2010 Free Family Programs at the DCCA
The DCCA offers four free family programs that facilitate the exploration of art through sound, painting, animation, and video.
Wilmington, Del. – 26 January 2010 – The Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts announces a series of four free family programs during the Winter/Spring 2010 season. Activities will engage and delight those of all ages. Each Family Program has a specific theme that will relate to the galleries and the day’s art activities. Children and their families can enjoy docent led tours of the galleries, explore the museum with a scavenger hunt, and create artwork with the guidance of a Teaching Artist. No pre-registration is required. This event is Free and open to the public.

SoundPlay

Noon – 3 pm
Ages 4 and up
Visiting artist Ashley John Pigford will transform the DCCA into a playful, interactive sound experience for kids and their families. Families are invited to play with sound recording, playback, and effects through various interactive devices located throughout the DCCA. This collaborative and playful experience is intended to inspire curiosity about sound and sound technology as a form of art.
SPLASH: An Exploration of Paint
Sunday, March 21, 2010 Noon – 3 pm
Ages 4 and up
Come get your hands messy with a DCCA Teaching Artist as we investigate the wide world of paint! Art activities will include explorations of color, texture, and shape. Families are invited to visit the galleries with DCCA docents to compare and contrast the different types of paintings on view. Smocks will be provided!
Animation Station
Sunday, April 18, 2010 Noon – 3 pm
Ages 4 and up
Join DCCA resident artist Carlos Ferguson and Tiny Circus for an afternoon of stop motion animation. Children and families will have the opportunity to make their own paper characters that will star in animated shorts. Families are encouraged to return to the DCCA on the evening of Friday, May 7th for a video screening of animated films that will include pieces created during the family program.
Art & Community Picnic and Outdoor Video Screening
Friday, May 7, 2010 Program time: 5 - 9 pm Video Screening: Sunset
Bring your family to the DCCA for an outdoor screening of short video animations created by Wilmington community-members with DCCA resident artist Carlos Ferguson and Tiny Circus, who travel the country in the Tiny Circus “rolling magic lantern,” a solar-powered, vintage Airstream trailer equipped with sound and a movie screen. Bring a picnic dinner and enjoy it at the Justison Landing Greenspace, adjacent to the Riverwalk, before the show begins at sunset.
Location: Justison Landing Greenspace, adjacent to the Riverwalk and just south of the corner of Justison and West Streets. Look for the vintage Airstream trailer!
Parking: Available at DCCA (a two-minute walk from the event)
What to bring: Blankets, lawn chairs, and picnic fare. This event is rain or shine! In the event of rain, the movie screening will be held inside the DCCA, where picnic space will also be availableGetting around the area:
