DCCA Continues Art Salad
The Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts continues its popular lunchtime series, Art Salad, on Wednesday, April 18 at noon for a lecture and book signing with Lisa Roberts author of "Antiques of the Future." An architect and home furnishing designer, Roberts showcases the deftly designed, fashion-forward products of today and reveals why they are destined to be the most sought after, and valuable, collectibles of tomorrow. Drawing on the advice of a team of museum
curators, industrial and graphic designers, store- owners, and other design professionals, Roberts began a highly selective process of choosing items for her collection. Her intent is to raise public awareness of superior design. The collection includes upwards of 250 products that she believes will significantly increase in value, once they are no longer in production. She began collecting her Antiques of the Future" when her interest in product design emerged during her career as an architect. Lisa practiced architecture for six years after receiving a B.A. degree from the
University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Architecture degree from Washington University in St. Louis. In 1984, she
left the field of architecture to pursue her professional interests in product and graphic design. Her early designs
were focused on home and gift products and included barware, wrapping paper, tee shirts, gift bags, paper tableware,
kitchen textiles, and posters. More recently, she has been involved in designing products for museum stores. Her brightly colored clocks, watches, note cards, magnets, coasters and baseballs have been sold in several museum
stores including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum, the National Building Museum, the American Institute of Architects Bookstores, and the Museum of American Folk ArtAntiques of the Future is highlighted in this
month's issue of American Style and was recently featured on the Today Show, CBS Morning News and in USA Today and The Washington Post. A limited number of Roberts' books will be for sale in the museum shop.
