Exhibiting American art in a 19th-century grist mill, the Brandywine River Museum is internationally known for its unparalleled collection of works by three generations of Wyeths and its fine collection of American illustration, still life and landscape painting. Set on the banks of the Brandywine River, the museum has been host to over 4 million visitors since it opened its doors in 1971.

Visitors to the museum can experience the world of renowned illustrator N.C. Wyeth by exploring his house and studio located on the museum grounds. The house where N.C. Wyeth raised his extraordinary children and the studio in which he painted many of his memorable works have been restored to reflect the character of 1945, the year of the artist's death. The studio houses Wyeth's easels, furniture, books, diverse prop collection and original paintings. In the house, restored areas include the "Big Room" and dining room, both sites for family events and gatherings.

Surrounding the museum are wild flowers, trees and shrubs indigenous to the greater Brandywine Valley.
