The Delaware History Center in Downtown Wilmington offers something for everyone, from families with children to adult tour groups, the seasoned traveler to tourist. Two museums (a refurbished 1940s Woolworth's, and the 18th-century Old Town Hall), an historic square perfect for a picnic lunch or afternoon respite, and a nationally renowned research facility are conveniently contained within one city block. The Delaware History Center is easy to find, with its huge red arch that spans from one side of Market Street to the next.
The Delaware History Center is appealing because of its innovative approach to the display of history. It combines nostalgic memorabilia, priceless artifacts, art, and re-creations that you can touch, hear, see and feel. Exhibitions offer a total experience designed to satisfy everyone from the serious scholar to casual browser.
Highlights include Distinctively Delaware, a permanent exhibition that combines scale historic scenes with audio-visual and computer components to explore four centuries of our unique people, places and happenings. A favorite stop for young people is Grandma's Attic, a hands-on learn-and-play discovery room on the second floor.
